What career path do you plan you going? Is it being a teacher? Doctor? Hair stylist? Well, maybe considering places to volunteer in your field of interest is a great start to your career. Volunteering gives you the opportunity to develop skills in the workplace, for example, learning how to resolve conflict, communication, organization, and problem solving. It also gives you the chance to try out and experience new careers that you may not have even though about doing. One of the benefits of that is that there doesn't have to be a life time commitment. For example, if you are interested in becoming a painter or and doctor, being you're experience at an art museum or a hospital.
Now you may be telling yourself "I'm not getting paid for volunteering..." Nonsense. Everything you do in life does not alway amount to generating a source of income. Just because it may be unpaid work, it does not mean that a person is limited to the skills that he/she learns. Believe it or not, a lot of organizations and programs that except volunteers, provide training to help you move on to your next stage in life. He/she will be ahead of the game against most of their peers because they have the chance to have the experience early on in life.
Last, volunteering is very helpful during the college process. Why? Because you will come across some scholarships that will ask about your volunteer experience and that is very important and plays a huge factor in the final decision of whether a person becomes the recipient of a scholarship award. You will also see it in college applications too. Colleges want to make sure that they don't select students that have been sitting around doing nothing for 12 years of school. They want to select the students that have been active in their school, neighborhood, and community.
