"One value that was sewn into the stitching of our character at a very early age had to do with our responsibility to help others....We were expected to be of assistance to our neighbors... “Being neighborly”... was synonymous with being kind, friendly, and helpful to our neighbors and something that we were encouraged to do on a regular basis through firsthand experience. It was a bit like mandatory community service" |
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." |
Volunteers have a great impact on communities and neighborhoods in the city of Philadelphia. Knowing how bad the streets are in todays time, it only takes one person to make a true difference in their community. It does not have to be so deep and drawn out. It can be just as simple as saying "hello" or holding the door for an elderly man or woman as they come through. Here are a few examples of how volunteers can make a difference and a change:
- Volunteers can teach, tutor, mentor, and most importantly support young children to high school aged children with academics, sports, etc.
- Volunteers can feed the homeless
- Volunteers can keep communities and neighborhoods clean and safe for everyone
- Volunteers can help at their local community center
- Volunteers can help at their local food cupboard
- Volunteers can volunteer at a hospital
